2009 GRANTS
The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Prescott selected four local charitable organizations as the 2009 Community Grants recipients. “In tough economic times, this type of funding is more important than ever for our communities’ network of social service organizations,” said Gail Bleeker, chairperson of the Foundation’s grants committee. “We received grant requests from many very deserving organizations in 2009; we feel fortunate to be able to honor four of these requests, totaling $29,150.00”

The service organizations awarded Community Grants included:

Hunger Relief Collaboration – consisting of five member organizations committed to feeding the hungry, the Hunger Relief Collaboration seeks to create a comprehensive spectrum of food and meal services available seven days a week for those in need. The Jewish Foundation’s grant of $10,000 will provide food for the project.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Arizona (BGC) - a service organization committed to providing safe places for youth to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The Jewish Foundation grant of $7,500 will allow BGC to establish a Family PLUS (Parents Leading, Uniting, and Serving) program.

Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) - works closely with local police and fire personnel, with on-call 24/7 trauma counseling to survivors of tragedies, such as vehicular accidents and fire, throughout Yavapai County. The Jewish Foundation has awarded TIP a grant of $3,000 to enhance volunteer recruitment and training, and a second grant of $3,650 to fund a new Therapy Dog Program for Yavapai County.

Prescott Area Habitat for Humanity – builds new homes for low income working families in the quad-city area. The Foundation has awarded Habitat for Humanity a $5,000 grant to provide the complete kitchen for a new home designated for a single working mother with four children, one requiring special needs education and another with a hearing disability.

“For over 5000 years the concept of charitable giving to one’s community has been an integral part of Jewish tradition,” said Foundation president David Hess. “The Jewish Foundation is proud and honored to support these fine local organizations and agencies that provide such vital services to those in need throughout the greater Prescott area.”
